Have voice in fighting corruption - Nneka to Children

Another eventful week for Nneka in 6 communities, 3 in the Afadzato South and 3 in the Ningo Prampram districts has ended. We have reached out to over 300 children from the
R/C Basic Schools in Ve Golokuati during their Catholilic Week Celebration.

The theme for the year is on Corruption and how to fight against it.  It was amazing to see how much these children know about the menace. This softened the grounds for us to share with them  how to unite to fight against corruption. We hope, with these future leaders, society would be  corruption free as they grow.

Follow ups on some of our Wards to some of the schools and even homes were revealing. It is sad to still see some children of school going age at home; this proves how much work we have on our hands as a nation.

We were also very privileged to have delivered the Education Support given to 12 of our basic school children by our friends from TKM, (9 from the Afadzato South and 3 from the Ningo Prampram districts). The Headteachers and their guardians were full of gratitude to our supporters, TKM.

We had the opportunity to join Jim Bourton Snr High School (JIBMASS) in their SRC Week celebration at  Logba Adzakoe. The Headmaster, Mr. Tenu and Mad. Ruth Frimpong and the entire staff were very generous in giving us  the whole of the afternoon to interact with over 900 students, on Quality Education in the Free Era, and their Role as Students. At the end of our deliberations the students agreed to focus on the positives rather than the challenges if they have to make the best out of the system. Come, Join us to Transform 'Africa one Child at a Time'.

Stop water pollution and pay bills to get more water - GWCL

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has reiterated the call on the general public to desist from polluting water bodies in the country and adhere to the right thing.

According to the Director of Media and Public Relations of GWCL, Stanley Martey, it costs the company a huge sum of monies to treat polluted waters for consumption, this he said also accounts for lost, affects effective service delivering and increment of tariffs.

" our river bodies are been polluted, who are polluting the river bodies?, it is we the citizens. now pollution of river bodies has an impact on the volumes of water that we extract for treatment, for consumption and so if you pollute the result is we are unable to produce enough it affect you the public or the consumer so our expectation is that we do our things right, let us stop polluting of our river bodies so that we can have a very good water extract and treat for the people, now if you pollute it apart from that the volumes will drain it also make cost of production very expensive then it could eventually affect our tariffs" He bemoaned.

Mr. Martey, said this on Friday,14 February in Ho, where a year Performance Improvement Program (PIP) contract was signed between the company and the State Interest and Government Authority (SIGA), formerly State Enterprise Commission.

He advised customers of the GWCL to pay their bills regularly and desist from illegal connections since such activities will not help the development we all calling for.

" if you also do not pay your Bill's regularly and promptly the way you should it will also affect us because we need money to invest back into the system, so if the little that we have to use in investing into the system so that we could treat you well or we could serve our customers well, and the money is not coming how are we going to serve you? So the consumer also has a role to play by paying his Bill's promptly and paying regularly "

On malpractices, the Officer said " you have another role by refusing to involve yourself in malpractices against the company, like illegal connections, bypasses and indiscriminate use of water, if you are paying for water doesn't also mean you should just use it unnecessarily because is you do that, it affects the pressure and in the line and it affects the next consumer" he noted, hence such unacceptable use of water should be put to a stop.

The contract is a year deal signed by board members and directors of GWCL, aimed to improve on performances and there will be a reward for regions that will meet the target and sanctions for those who will fail to meet it, this will last throughout 2020.

UHAS SRC lunches School mobile App

The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), led by it's President Abraham Norman Nortey, have lunched a mobile App "UHASMobile".

The App has features of Constitution, Notice board, Admission, Executive, Help and News, and was officially launched over the weekend at UHAS North Campus, in Ho.

According to the SRC President, Abraham Norman, the idea to create such a novelty came in last year, 2019 when he was adjudged the best tertiary student across the country. He said he has observed that, many tertiary institutions such as University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has a school App which UHAS did not, so he thought it wise to create one when he became the students leader.

He said the initiative will facilitate students on the University's activities via technology than the traditional means of having access to information.

" there have been a lot of challenges students face when it comes to information and a world without proper communication and information it leads to a mess, so the SRC thought it very prudent that at least to bring this initiative forth for the students to have almost all the University resources or information in just a single click"  he noted.

Mr. Abraham Norman indicated that, an amount of Ghc3,000.00 was used with a voluntary supports from some resource persons to come out with the App.

The local President of National Union of Ghana Students(NUGS) of UHAS, Mawuli Agbe, was optimistic the App will go along way to aid both students and outsiders.

" this App is not only going to students who are already in the University but it is going to help students who will apply into the university as well in the sense that it will serve as opportunity for them to know the entry requirements of the university, the cut-off point and to know the various departments and what the various courses entails " he said.

Some students at the event were grateful for the initiative and praised the SRC Executives for the move.

The University of Health and Allied Sciences has two campus in the Volta region, Hohoe campus and Ho as it's main university environment.  The University currently have a staff strength of 642, which entails 290 Senior Members, 153 Senior Staff and 199 Junior staff. The University in this year, 2020 graduated 36 graduates and 402 undergraduates .

UHAS was established in the year 2012 as a specialist University for Science and related courses, it was started
with a first batch of 154 students and currently has 4,898 student populace.
